Infrastructure modernization in Edwin, the R2i Cloud

To improve the customer experience and optimize its operations, a Canadian retail chain decided to modernize its IT infrastructure. Its legacy systems no longer corresponded to current needs.

Challenges

  • Omnichannel customer experience: providing a seamless and consistent purchasing experience across different channels (online, in-store, mobile).
  • Inventory management: optimize management to avoid shortages and surpluses.
  • Data analysis: Analyze data to understand customer behavior and adapt marketing strategies.

Solution

The company decided to modernize its IT infrastructure by adopting Edwin, R2i’s Cloud solution, and integrating advanced technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT). The key stages of this modernization were:

  • Migration to the cloud: R2i carried out a comprehensive assessment of the existing infrastructure and developed a detailed migration plan, including upgrading existing environments.

The team, made up of company and R2i staff, migrated systems and applications to the Edwin platform in order to benefit from the flexibility and scalability offered by this type of infrastructure.

  • Systems integration: the various inventory, sales and customer relationship management systems were integrated by an external software firm via APIs, to allow a unified view of operations
  • Use of AI and IoT: AI is now used to analyze customer data and predict trends, while IoT helps track inventory in real time and optimize inventory management.

The biggest challenge was to design a telecommunications network that would efficiently connect the client’s existing data centers with R2i’s data centers, as well as all the client’s sites across North America. We implemented a private dark fiber network with five distinct connections to link the infrastructure to the four data centers.
